A Bit of Nostalgia

The original siren that stood a top the fire station is back in its rightful place. A traditional symbol of the fire service, the fire siren was the means of alerting our volunteer firefighters of and emergency, before it gave way to the pagers and home alerting systems used today.

The siren stood perched on the roof of the fire station since 1941. In the early 1990's it was turned off, and a few years later the siren was removed in order to have a new roof installed. This past year Fire Fighter Tim Campbell worked tirelessly to restore and paint the old unit in hopes that it could be returned to its original place, high atop the building.

Although the siren is in full working order, it will not be used to alert our fire fighters during emergencies. Instead it will stand proudly as a symbol of the volunteer fire service, and as a reminder of the many past members who have served this Department.
